Artist Biography
Maysaa Yaser Abu Odah is a contemporary Palestinian fine artist based in Gaza, Palestine. Her artistic journey began in early childhood, when she found in paper and colors a sanctuary to express complex feelings and thoughts that words often failed to convey. This personal passion evolved into an academic commitment, culminating in a Bachelor of Art Education from Al-Aqsa University in Gaza.
Throughout her studies and ongoing practice, Maysaa developed a versatile technical command across diverse mediums, including acrylics, colored pencils, soft pastels, graphite, charcoal, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, woodworking, and hand weaving. Her work frequently explores themes of human emotion, womanhood, childhood, memory, hope, and the lived realities of Palestine. She has participated in collaborative art projects on women's societal roles and organized exhibitions such as "Al-Aseer" (The Prisoner), focusing on themes of freedom, patience, and suffering. Her art, widely showcased on platforms like Pal Arts, continues to connect deeply with audiences worldwide as she adapts her techniques using whatever creative materials are accessible under challenging conditions.
Artist Story
For Maysaa, art has always been more than an aesthetic pursuit—it is an indispensable language of truth, memory, and emotional survival. Growing up in Gaza, canvas and color offered a safe space where inner feelings could take tangible shape. What started as childhood drawings gradually matured into a dedicated life path centered around art education and fine arts.
Even as war disrupted community initiatives—including a major collective art project on women’s rights whose finished pieces were lost—Maysaa remained steadfast in her practice. Adapting continuously to resource shortages during ongoing conflicts, she turns everyday struggles into profound artistic expressions. From poignant portraits of children bearing tears and keffiyehs to symbolic depictions of maternal grief, harvest, and quiet moments of hope, Maysaa's art preserves the spirit, dignity, and collective memory of her community for generations to come.
Artist Statement
"My relationship with art began in childhood, when paper and color became my primary language for thoughts and emotions too deep for words. I believe that art serves as a bridge between the inner human experience and the world, translating real-life struggles, memories, and fleeting moments of hope into visual stories.
Working across realism, expressionism, and symbolism, I choose my mediums based on the specific emotion or concept I wish to convey—whether through the soft detail of colored pencils, the bold presence of acrylics, or the tactile depth of mixed media. My work centers on humanity, the innocence of childhood, the strength of women, and the enduring identity of Palestine. Even under the harshest conditions, art remains my way of asserting life, preserving memory, and speaking directly from the heart." - Mayssa Yaser Abu Odah

Madonna of Gaza
"War may restrict the movement of physical canvases out of Gaza, but it cannot silence the voices of its creators. Right now, we are offering exclusive canvas and framed prints to bridge the divide and support these resilient artists directly. Every print purchased keeps their art alive until the day we can safely deliver their original works to you."
Inspired by the enduring tradition of the Madonna and Child, this painting portrays a mother in Gaza holding her son as a universal image of love, loss, and endurance. It invites viewers to reflect on the timeless experience of mothers protecting their children amid war and displacement, echoing—not depicting literally—the sacred narratives that have shaped art for centuries.
